Our Mission‬

At Amaru Come Unity Home School, our mission is to nurture the melanated scholar; mentally, physically, and spiritually. We provide learning environments for scholars ranging from those who are gifted to those who have struggled academically in the past. We serve as an alternative to institutions that perpetuate anti-Blackness and contribute to the school-to-prison pipeline.

Ethics & Values

Work ethic is a belief that hard work and diligence have a moral benefit and an inherent ability, virtue or value to strengthen character and individual abilities. It is a set of values centered on the importance of work and manifested by determination or desire to work hard.

“Cowrie Counts”

We agreed to cooperate and organize our work wisely

because we are able to respond with intelligence in order to maintain our enriching and nurturing environment.

aboutus

Amaru Come Unity Home School LC3 is a Pre-kindergarten through 8th grade Home School Support System located in Uptown New Orleans and operated by the non-profit Come-Unity Alliance for Education and Success  (CAFES).

Established August 2015, we began as a protest against the educational and behavioral colonialism happening at the expense of melanated scholars throughout New Orleans. We create an environment rich in African culture and model positivity with our impressions, expressions, and social interactions.

At ACU, students acquire the attitudes and skills that contribute to successful learning in school and across their lifespan.

We strive to help students develop the academic skills and attitudes necessary to make effective transitions from middle school to high school, and from high school to a wide range of postsecondary options.

In addition, students understand how their academic experiences prepare them to be successful in the world of work, in their interpersonal relationships, and in the community.
